On-Call Relief Worker

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to abused women and children who reside at the 24-Hour Emergency Shelter facility and responding to 24-hour Crisis Line calls, and administrative phone calls.

The On-Call Relief Worker does not have a set schedule, but works when called, to fill in for an absent employee and to provide emergency relief when needed. Must be available to work weekdays, evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays often on short notice. 

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Responds to 24-hour Crisis Line calls, and administrative phone calls
  • Provides crisis intervention and support to victims of domestic violence
  • Completes Intake and Exit Interviews
  • Assists clients in setting personal goals, developing necessary skills to achieve those goals
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures
  • Provides accurate and concise documentation and maintains clients’ files, communication logs and statistical database in accordance with agency standards
  • Attends professional development trainings and events as required
  • Interacts with clients, co-workers, and visitors in a respectful, nonviolent, and non-controlling manner
  • Maintains professional and appropriate boundaries with clients

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field preferred
  • Knowledge and experience working with victims of domestic violence, crisis intervention, counseling, resolving conflict skills preferred but not essential
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as on own initiative
  • Fluency in other languages is an asset
Compensation: Salary CI$15 p/hr
