In essence, abuse is about the need of one person to control another. Although violence is often involved in abuse, there are other forms of such control that do not overtly use violence, such as emotional and financial abuse. This sometimes makes it more difficult for a victim to identify the behaviour as abusive.Unfortunately this type of abuse often progresses and becomes physically violent.
