Financial abuse
Financial abuse occurs when a person uses money or uses the power of money and finances to control another.
If a woman is a homemaker with no outside employment she is dependent on what her husband brings in from his employment for money. An abuser may withhold or threaten to withhold money from his victim. He may control her by the guilt of him being the provider of the money when in fact she is contributing to the household in a different way- by taking care of the home and children. Financial abuse is not violent but it is a prevalent and painful form of abuse because without money one cannot survive in society. The victim may feel trapped in a situation because she is dependent on her abuser for monetary allowances.
